According to the article published by The Weather Channel, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is considering moving up the official start date of the Atlantic hurricane season from June 1st to May 15th.
The current dates have remained the same since 1965 but after several years of the first hurricanes of the seasons forming before June 1st, they are considering changing it. With the temperatures rising, the weather becomes more and more unpredictable each year, which makes sense why the NOAA wants to revisit the official hurricane season dates.
Last year, a record 12 named storms made landfall and this year is predicted to be very active as well in the Atlantic Ocean.

Why is this so important? Emergency management officials as well as the public need to be aware of these changes so that they can manage preparedness in a timely manner. It essentially means that hurricane preparedness begins earlier than previous years.
So the public should begin gathering supplies for their families as well as securing their homes and businesses sooner.
